Every year, car manufacturers launch their best vehicles in the market to attract the attention of customers. While many of these cars are top notch, others are below standard. Consumer Reports helps customers decide which vehicle is worth the hype and would be a waste of money. For the 2022 Top 10 Picks, Consumer Reports created a special category for the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime because it’s just plain good.
Various brand vehicles make Consumer Reports’ Best Cars of the Year list
Each year, Consumer Reports compiles a Top 10 list to help its readers and customers find the best vehicle on the market. For a car to be in the top 10, it must have the highest overall score in its category.
The score takes into account variables such as predicted reliability, road tests, owner satisfaction and safety, among others. The vehicle should also come standard in all trims with automatic emergency braking, pedestrian detection and forward collision. All of these features are considered essential by the site as they have been proven time and time again to save lives.
This year, Consumer Reports added highway speed AEB and gave an additional two points to a car’s overall score if the vehicle was equipped with an active driver assistance system. The Ford Mustang Mach-E was the only vehicle on the publication’s list that earned the extra points. Its active driver assistance system offered appropriate warnings when the driver looked away for too long.
The qualification ultimately excluded other high-scoring vehicles like the Hyundai Tucson and BMW X5. Consumer Reports did not include large trucks in this year’s list due to their lack of key safety features or below-average reliability.

The 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime received a rave review from Consumer Reports due to its features. At a glance, the 2022 model doesn’t look any different from its 2021 sibling. That’s because Toyota hasn’t made any crazy changes to the 2022 model. Still, the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime has been given a modern look while enhancing its new trim, even with its minor upgrades.
The 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime took the lead in the two-row SUV category on consumer reports‘ List of top 10 picks of 2022 due to its efficiency, power and comfort when driving in the vehicle. This plug-in hybrid can sprint from 0-60mph in under 7 seconds, which is impressive. The car also has an automatic emergency braking system with pedestrian detection, improving its safety.
Consumer Reports loved the 2022 Toyota RAV4 Prime so much that they created a category for it to win an award. The 2022 Subaru Forester and RAV4 Prime are both compact SUVs. But since the Subaru Forester had already won the award in the Small SUV category, Consumer Reports decided to create another category, the two-row SUV, to allow the RAV4 Prime to bring something home.
This is obvious because the previous list, the 10 best picks of 2021didn’t have the two-row SUV category, meaning the RAV4 Prime stole a spot on the list.

The 2022 Toyota Camry won the spot for best mid-size sedan in Consumer Reports’ 2021 Top 10 Picks list. The site praised it for its optional V6 engine. Automakers have underpowered many midsize sedans, but the Camry’s 300-hp V6 proves it has it all. However, the Honda Accord took Camry’s place in the top 10 picks of 2022 due to its drivability, up-to-date infotainment and CVT transmission.
