Price: The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid starts at $46,760 before any federal and state incentives.
The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica hybrid minivan offers exceptional fuel economy. It’s actually a plug-in hybrid, capable of hitting the equivalent of 82 mpg.
What is the difference between a hybrid and a plug-in hybrid? The plug-in hybrid (often referred to as a PHEV or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) has a more powerful battery than a straight hybrid, meaning it can cover a useful amount of ground on just electricity.
In the case of the Pacifica Hybrid, that could be up to 32 miles. For families using their minivan for regular short hops like running to school, they could charge a Pacifica Hybrid every night (that’s the plug-in part) and almost never use gas. But for those occasional road trips, there’s always a V-6 engine on board.
In other areas, the Pacifica Hybrid does its job admirably as a comfortable and spacious transport for up to seven occupants, with attractive features such as standard power sliding side doors, as well as a comprehensive feature set. of security.

The Limited starts at $51,055 and the top Pinnacle version is $55,035. Once this extremely well-equipped, there aren’t many options to raise the price further.
The main competitor is the Toyota TM,
Sienna, whose entire range uses a hybrid transmission (but not plug-in hybrid). This model also offers all-wheel drive. The Sienna starts at around $35,000, with seating for eight. A fairer comparison might be the next XLE version, at around $41,000.
Starting price for non-hybrid rivals like the Honda HMC,
Odyssey and Kia 000270,
Carnival costs virtually $10,000 less than a 2022 Pacifica Hybrid, with their lowest trims costing between $3,500 and $5,500 more.
Also, be aware that the 2022 Pacifica Hybrid is eligible for a federal tax credit of $7,500. Various state incentives further reduce the final amount. And then there’s the fuel savings.

Driving the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid
First, there’s no real learning curve for dealing with a plug-in hybrid. You can drive it like an ordinary vehicle. Put it in gear, check your surroundings, and off you go, steering and braking if necessary.
It’s pretty easy in the Pacifica Hybrid. Outward vision is improved by a raised driving position, as well as blind spot monitoring. Maneuvering is aided by a 360-degree camera system, as well as parking sensors at both ends with automatic braking.
To get the most out of the capacity of the hybrid battery, however, it is a good idea to get into the habit of charging it at night or in parking lots equipped with charging stations. And familiarize yourself with the location of the “EV Mode” button.
A new feature of the 2022 Pacifica Hybrid is a Max Regeneration message that appears in the instrument cluster whenever regenerated braking energy or special conditions result in optimal fuel efficiency.
The regular Pacifica starts out as an 8-seater. The 2022 Pacifica Hybrid seats seven, with a pair of standard second-row captain’s chairs. The third row can fold into the floor when more cargo space is needed.
Space and occupant comfort are there, even in the third row. There are 10 cup holders, up to 12 USB ports and now an N95 cabin filter which prevents 95% of particles from entering the cabin, including bacteria, pollen and other allergens.
A FamCam interior camera is offered, so adults in the front seat can monitor the antics of those less mature passengers. Even the entry-level model still has a convex “conversation mirror” above the usual rear-view mirror for a view of the Pacifica Hybrid’s rear.
Despite the extra hardware, this plug-in hybrid model doesn’t compromise on cargo space compared to its non-hybrid stablemate. Behind the rearmost row is a 32.3 cubic foot luggage compartment. The maximum cargo volume behind the front seats measures 140.5 cubic feet. It’s pretty good, but if this aspect is particularly important, the Honda Odyssey does better.
We’ve all seen hybrid cars that are different from regular cars, making whatever eco-friendly statement the driver wants to get across. The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid doesn’t do that.
Aside from a few inconspicuous badges, the casual observer would assume this was just another minivan, not the fuel-efficient family-hauling wonder that it truly is. But people don’t buy minivans for their looks, which are affected by the practical considerations of accommodating three rows of seats, plenty of headroom and a generous luggage compartment.
Where a minivan trumps an SUV is the low entry height and sliding side doors, making it easier to get in and out.
Hands-free sliding side doors
Parents tend to need another pair of hands most of the time, but especially when trying to herd the herd into the car. Or, in this case, minibus. A gesture of the foot opens the side doors or the tailgate. Touring L has them on the options list, and they’re standard in the top two trims.
It’s a grand name for a rear-seat entertainment system, but it’s a pretty grand setup. It now includes Amazon AMZN,
Fire TV for automatic streaming content, apps and games, plus Blu-ray player, two 10.1-inch screens, 115-volt household outlet, cabin camera and vacuum cleaner. Front-seat users can enjoy the infotainment touchscreen features when the vehicle is parked. Standard on Pinnacle, optional on Touring L and Limited.
At its entry level, the 2022 Pacifica Hybrid comes with 17-inch alloy wheels, power sliding side doors, power tailgate, keyless entry/start, remote start, tri-zone automatic climate control , an N95 cabin air filter, heated/leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, 8-way power driver’s seat (with memory settings), leatherette seating surfaces, auto-dimming rear view mirror, door opener garage door and sun visor for the second and third rows of seats.
Safety and driver assistance features include rain-sensing wipers, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning , adaptive cruise control with stop/go, a 360-degree camera system, front/rear parking sensors with automatic stop, self-parking function for parallel and perpendicular spaces and automatic high beams.
A 10.1-inch touchscreen controls the infotainment system, which includes Apple AAPL Wireless,
CarPlay/Android Auto smartphone integration, Amazon Alexa compatibility, voice commands and satellite radio.
Limited ups the luxury quotient with a dual-glazed sunroof, Nappa leather seating surfaces, hands-free operation of the sliding side doors and tailgate (optional in Touring L), heated/ventilated front seats, a 8-way power front passenger seat, heated 2nd row seats, vacuum cleaner, navigation and 20-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.
Pinnacle comes with quilted Nappa leather seating surfaces, 2nd row lumbar cushions, 18-inch alloy wheels, a fancier center console and the Unconnect Theater Pack which now includes Amazon Fire TV for Auto. Depending on trim, the 2022 Pacifica Hybrid offers up to 12 USB ports, including USB-C versions.
The Touring L trim is also eligible for a 13-speaker Alpine audio system when ordered with the Uconnect Theater Package.
Engine and transmission
Delivering a muscular 260 total horsepower, the 2022 Pacifica Hybrid features a 3.6-liter V6 (using 87-octane regular gasoline) and a pair of electric motors powered by a lithium- ion. An automatic transmission sends drive to the front wheels.
On battery alone, the Pacifica Hybrid can travel up to 32 miles. With a full tank and full battery, the total range is 520 miles.
The Environmental Protection Agency calculates miles per gallon equivalent (MPGe) for plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles. The 2022 Pacifica Hybrid is estimated to achieve 82 MPGe in combined driving (a mix of 45% highway and 55% city). When operating as a conventional hybrid, it averages around 30 mpg. These EPA figures are for Pacifica Hybrid 20221; we don’t expect them to change for the 2022 model.
