Eyes will be on the skies above Kariega when, for the first time ever, the Goodyear Eagles Aerobatics team is seen in action at the Klinicare Wings & Wheels Air Show, taking place at Uitenhage Airfield on Saturday.

The air show at Uitenhage Aerodrome will be only the second in South Africa since the pandemic hit in 2020. The team of highly experienced Goodyear Eagles Pitts Special pilots, who are considered among the best of the best in the sport of aerobatics in South Africa, showed off their skills last weekend at an air show in Stellenbosch, before heading to the Eastern Cape.

“For those with aviation in their blood, there will be, besides the aerobatic planes which include a performance by Red Bull aerobatic pilot Patrick Davidson, many other wings to see, such as old warbirds, L39 jets and L29, a Boeing Stearman, T6 Harvard and a Sukhoi to name a few,” said Colin Dettmann, President of the Uitenhage Airfield Association.

This will be the eighth Wings & Wheels airshow organized by this association with the aim of raising funds to maintain the airfield facilities, as well as contributing to identified beneficiaries.

Adrenaline Fueled Action

“This will be our biggest air show ever. Festival goers will enjoy a feast when it comes to the variety of wings like in airplanes and wheels when it comes to the many classic cars, the different automobile clubs like the Beetle Club, the bikes, daredevil jump bikes, tricycles (including the only six-cylinder tricycle in the bay), off-road and rally,” said Klinicare Wings & Wheels Air Show organizer Lourens Kruger.

“We have an adrenaline-filled surprise that involves the Davidson brothers, Patrick the SA aerobatic champion and his brother Nic Davidson, a racing and rally driver.

“It will not only be fun to watch, but there will be various activities in which you can join in the adrenaline-pumping action such as tandem skydiving (only 20 slots still available), helicopter jumps as well than the ability to jump in a rally car and enjoy a scene with them.
