Cardinal Athlete Profile, presented by Quality Toyota of Fergus Falls: Lilly Thul and Hadley Thul | Cardinal sports

(undated) — The Quality Cardinal athlete profile — sponsored by Quality Toyota of Fergus Falls — includes a recent conversation with Hadley Thul and Lilly Thul of the Alexandria girls’ basketball team.

Senior Lilly Thul and her younger sister, a freshman Hadley Thul of the Cardinal of Alexandria women’s basketball team were both named by the head coach Wendy Kohler to be interviewed as part of the Quality Toyota/Quality Cardinal Athlete Profile series airing on KXRA on Saturday mornings. The conversation was recorded before Alexandria’s first post-season game. On Saturday, March 5, Alexandria Area High School was the site of a Section 8AAA tournament semi-final game, as the Lady Cards took on Detroit Lakes.

Hadley and Lilly joined KXRA Sporting Director Dave McClurg to talk about the 2021-22 season. Hadley shared her thoughts on her first full season on the varsity team. Lilly told D-Mac how the Lady Cards showed progress during the 25-game regular season.

Lilly and Hadley spoke about Alexandria’s regular season win over Detroit Lakes. They knew the Lakers would provide a formidable challenge, even though Alexandria won 54-41 over Detroit Lakes in the regular season.

Not only had Hadley and Lilly been teammates during the winter, but they shared the field during the fall. The Thul sisters were important collaborators when the Cardinal of Alexandria Volleyball the team won a share of the Central Lakes Conference title. They shared some comments about being teammates on two Alexandria teams.

In the days since this interview aired, Alexandria’s postseason was short-circuited. Lilly and Hadley were in the starting lineup when the Cardinals hosted Detroit Lakes. The teams were never separated from each other throughout the Section 8AAA playoffs. The game was tied at 20 at the regulation halfway point. Then Hadley Thul hit a 3-point shot with 19 seconds left in regulation time to break a 50 tie, only for Detroit Lakes to counter with a three-point shot to tie the game. The game would go into two overtime periods before Detroit Lakes emerged victorious, 71-67. The loss ended Lilly Thul’s prep basketball career. His Cardinals finished the 2021-22 season at 12-14.

The “Thul Time” interview featuring Lilly and Hadley originally aired on KXRA Radio on Saturday, March 5. It’s a little over seven minutes.

Each varsity team at Alexandria Area High School will be highlighted once in the season for the Quality Cardinal Athlete Profile. The conversations typically air between 9:45 and 10 a.m. Saturday after the KXRA radio show “Home Grown,” which is hosted by Linda Kellerman. Quality Toyota/Quality Cardinal Athlete Profile programs for the winter season air on KXRA Saturdays during the months of January, February and March.
