    One of the rarest coupes you will see these days is the Scion TRD
Supercharged tC. It may be even hard to identify one if the owner chooses not to
place the TRD badges on the side and back of his or her ride. If it blasts past you
at a pretty high rate of speed and you hear that signature whine from the
supercharger, you may well have just seen one of the rare TRD Supercharged tC
Scions. The supercharged version of the tC is a little more raw and edgy than the
regular tC due to the whining and clanging sounds of the supercharger. It is not
too loud but always lets the driver know that something special is under the hood.

    The performance of the supercharger is very immediate unlike most
turbocharged cars which have turbo lag and a short waiting period before the true
performance begins. Just put your right food into the TRD supercharged tC and
you will sail down the road at a nice clip of speed. It is definitely easy to live with
as a daily driver. The TRD exhaust was also fitted to our test car and definitely
complimented the performance and fun to drive nature of the TRD supercharged
tC. It produced a deeper exhaust note but just like the supercharger itself, it was
not too loud to annoy neighbors or get a ticket for being over the legal sound limit

    Toyota has not made any exact horsepower and torque claims, but judging
from the smooth and quick performance, the actual horsepower must be very
close too 200 hp. One nice thing about the TRD supercharged Scion is  the fact
that it still had good gas mileage even after a little performance driving, it still
averaged almost 24 miles per gallon, pretty respectable for all the added
performance over a normal tC. TRD has much experience with fine tuning
superchargers for Toyota’s lineup with vehicles like the Tacoma, Tundra and
Solara but the tC may be the most fun to drive of all those for its quick handling
to go with the quick acceleration from the TRD supercharger.

    It may be hard to find a Scion dealer with a TRD supercharged tC sitting on
the showroom floor awaiting test drives because the TRD supercharger is a
dealer installed performance part. Most dealers will not install it until a customer
purchases a new tC because part of the Scion ownership experience is
personalizing your very own Scion rather than just buying the one that sits on the
showroom floor as it is. One of the most convincing things about the TRD
Supercharged tC is the reassuring fact that the TRD supercharger is covered
under the normal Scion warranty if it is installed at a factory authorized Scion
dealer. The TRD Supercharger is also smog legal in all 50 states. Last but not
least, do the math, add the price of the TRD supercharger installed to the price of
a base model Scion tC and it adds up to just over $20,000. That is a lot of value
for a high performance sport coupe considering that many Scion tC competitors
start for thousands more dollars while offering less performance.
